Arts Space and Open Arts Studio is open to everyone on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. From ages 3 to 103, everyone needs space for creativity. The Arts Space and Open Studio is meant as a place for individuals to meditate and reflect through the use of prayer and art. It is intended for creativity, reflection and as a way to deepen one’s relationship with God through the use of the creative arts.
The purpose of sacred artwork is to inspire a sense of awe at the transcendent mysteries of the Christian worldview. God dwells in beauty and His holiness is beautiful. As Psalm 50:2 puts it, "From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth.” Art is valued and inspired by God as a means of reflecting and glorifying the wonder of God. It is an invitation to draw closer to the Divine and to worship the Lord. Many times, those creating art also make a deeper spiritual connection with God during this process. Either intentionally or unintentionally, the person may feel a real sense that they are not creating by themselves but are rather receiving inspiration from the Holy Spirit and creating with Him. By engaging in the creation of art, we can experience a sense of comfort and peace, as well as feelings of unease and being challenged.
Art invites us to an encounter, which is a gift—a spiritual gift that might bring us into a deeper relationship with God. The function of art is both to be a "mirror" to our culture and to exert an influence on that culture. The arts are also one of the greatest gifts God has given us, cheering the heart, stimulating the mind and enriching human life. Ultimately, as with all gifts, art is there to give glory to God, the greatest creator. Creativity also allows you to experience your spirit through your six senses—sight, smell, touch, hearing, taste, and the extrasensory intuition and perception of knowing without knowing why. Creativity invites you every day to see the world anew. In the moments while creating, time expands in unexplainable ways. Creativity of all kinds your mind, engages your imagination, and feeds your soul. Being creative can also facilitate understanding and encourage healing. Creativity is mindfulness in motion.
Our playground is for Magnolia families with children under 11 years old. Adult supervision is required. Please enter the playground from Norman Ave and respect our neighbors by only using the playground from 9 AM to dusk. Our playground was named for our beloved congregant, Joan Brown, who was part of our community for many years.
